Congress Receives House Bill to Establish ESSU College of Medicine

The Office of the Minority Leader, Cong. Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan, announced today, February 6, 2024, that House Bill No. 9872 has been officially submitted in Congress for the establishment of the College of Medicine at Eastern Samar State University.

The bill aims to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the region and improve access to quality medical education. The proposed College of Medicine will not only provide opportunities for aspiring doctors but also enhance the overall healthcare system in Eastern Samar. With the support of government officials and various stakeholders, it is hoped that this bill will be passed and bring significant development to the region's healthcare sector. This will not only encourage more doctors to practice in the region but also attract medical students from other areas, further enriching the healthcare workforce.

As stated in the Explanatory Note released on the official Facebook page of Cong. Libanan, "the proposed initiative aims to alleviate the existing healthcare challenges and contribute to an improved doctor-to-population ratio, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of the community."

It is worth noting that on February 3, 2024, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., the University President, and Dr. Vicente Agda, Jr., the Vice President for Academic Affairs, endorsed the College of Medicine proposal to Cong. Libanan.

The University, through Dr. Pagatpatan, expresses its profound appreciation and gratitude to Cong. Libanan for signifying his full support for the proposed College of Medicine. Within a mere three (3) days, the bill had been submitted to Congress.
