Eastern Samar State University Collaborates with City of Borongan and DOST Region VIII for Smart City Project

Eastern Samar State University enters into an Inter-Agency Collaboration with the City of
Borongan and Department of Science and Technology Region VIII
On June 21, 2023, the City of Borongan hosted the “Smart City Roadmap Presentation and
Stakehloder’s Consultation.” This event seeks to ensure the fulfillment of the Smart City Project
of Borongan City through Stakeholder’s Consultation, MOA/MOU signing, and turn-over of
developed software application.
The three collaborating agencies were represented by their respective heads and other officials,
the City of Borongan was represented by Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda, Vice Mayor
Emmanuel Tiusongco, the City Councilors, the Head of the City Population Office and the Head
of City Project Management Office. The Regional Director of DOST RVIII, Engr. Ernesto M.
Granada, was also present, with him is the Assistant Regional Director, Marilyn Radam and two
other officials of DOST RVIII. Meanwhile, ESSU was represented by Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza,
the Vice President for Administration, also with her is the Vice President for Research and
Extension, Dr. Lito D. Lacaba, and the three (3) Faculty Members from the Department of
Computer Engineering, namely, Engr. Kaycee A. Calinaya Engr. Carlota A. Salas Engr. Maria
Rizzalyn Cabong.
ESSU played a significant role for the Smart City project by developing two applications, namely
the Registry of Brgy. Inhabitants and Migrant Digital App and Data Storage Platform, as well as
the Libre Sakay Digital Application and Hardware System. The two applications were developed
by our Computer Engineering Students with the assistance of their Instructors. Indeed, it's great
to know that our students in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering put their skills
and knowledge to use in service of their community.
By participating in the Smart City Project, Eastern Samar State University is demonstrating its
commitment to community engagement and innovation. The university is taking an active role in
shaping the future of Borongan City and contributing to the development of a smarter, and more
sustainable community.
